Proposal:    A viewing of BEAUTIFUL LOSERS. A wonderful documentary on a group of outsiders focused on the DIY momvement in the early 1990s. It features Shepard Fairey, Ed Templeton, Harmony Korine, Barry McGee, Jo Jackson, and many others.

It would be fun to watch it as a group and discuss briefly thereafter.
Type of activity    screening and social gathering
Support/Logistics/Materials needed    Just need a projector, the movie (got it!), and some fun people and drinks.

Radical Gastronomy

Proposed by Adrienne S Allen

I propose radical gastronomy, I’d like to start a gastrobatics group, a culinary arts project involving the most unusually inspiring combinations of food, such as pies and fries, oatmeal sandwiches, chocolate covered ants, what have you. Another aspect of this proposal is the focus on locally produced and organic foods.

The logistics are pretty simple and could coincide perfectly with a happy hours event.

Can take the form of a workshop, social gathering, art project.

Support/Logistics/Materials needed: Pots & pans, plates, eating utensils, napkins, blender, deep fryer?

Let’s explore the art of boxing. If Alfred Jarry, Judy Chicago and David Leslie (aka The Impact Addict) can do it, so can we. Let’s not forget our bodies as we cultivate our minds.

Some activities:

  • basic training: learn defense and offense tactics, as well as sparring and conditioning
  • challenge: who would you like to box? What two people would you like to see box each other? (friendly, fun sparring, of course). Let’s make some match-ups.
  • performance: make a pd interface using gloves and bodies to trigger sound/ image processing for a boxing performance.

Performance Art Class

Proposed by Joanna Spitzner, for 2010

I propose we commission (for a very modest fee), artists we like to develop assignments for us to complete—from specific instructions to conceptual problems through which to develop performances–indiviudually and as a group.

In addition, we’ll do some reading, watching/participating, and in general explore live art in its many forms.

Email me if you’re interested.

Introduction to Arduino

Requested by Joanna Spitzner

Arduino is an open-source electronics prototyping platform based on flexible, easy-to-use hardware and software. It’s intended for artists, designers, hobbyists, and anyone interested in creating interactive objects or environments.

Arduino can sense the environment by receiving input from a variety of sensors and can affect its surroundings by controlling lights, motors, and other actuators. The microcontroller on the board is programmed using the Arduino programming language (based on Wiring) and the Arduino development environment (based on Processing). Arduino projects can be stand-alone or they can communicate with software on running on a computer (e.g. Flash, Processing, MaxMSP).

Yoko Ono Fluxus Gift Box Session

[slideshow id=9]

Thursday, December 10,  2 pm

Title: Yoko Ono Fluxus Gift Box Session
Location: co-opted space # 2: 202 Shaffer Art Building, Syracuse University campus

Proposed by Gail Hoffman.

The Committee on Women and Art wants to bring Yoko Ono for Matrilineage this year. We thought the best way to invite her is to make a special Fluxus box for her.  What can you give to Yoko? Or make in an hour? Come to this workshop and help make an artwork for Yoko. Bring an object or come ready to make something.

The Gift of Art Workshop

Friday, December 11, 4-7 pm
Location: Headquarters: 1003 E Fayette Street, Apt 10 (enter thru back door)

No need to buy gifts, we can make them: cards, books, art, crafts, t-shirts, videos, and anything else you can dream up.  Dust off those supplies or odd scraps of materials you’ve been storing and share them. The AS in the AS has some supplies (bookmaking stuff, t-shirt transfer paper, drawing and painting stuff, video cameras, dvds, fabric, lino cut printmaking things, and some odd craft supplies like googley eyes). If you have a special skill (bedazzling, string art, bookmaking, needlepoint, printmaking, assemblage), come and show us how to do it.
