Slumber Party

Proposed by Melissa Armstrong

As your appointed Associate Professor of Nap-Time, I’d like to propose the first Slumber Party at the ASintheAS. Not necessary to stay the night… but for your learning experience this is surely preferable.

I will provide: breathing exercises, stress-reduction techniques, a voice with “calming timbre,” an art video selection, some films I own but have never watched, conversation, and many snacks to go around.

You will provide: yourself, pajamas, your teddy bear, sleeping bag and pillow, and your best napping ideas.

Your final grade in this course will depend upon:

Participation in Class Discussion (50%)
The Snoring Contest (20%)
The Number of Gummy Bears You Can Catch in your Mouth (30%)

Chipping and Hacking Video Game Consoles

Proposed by Pat Davis

A demonstration on how to hack and chip videogames, with Mark Grimm. We would chip my Wii, and then use downloaded games to prove that they work (free).

Everyone must come with their own console and chip. Either Wiikey 2 or solderless Wiikey 2 are recommended. E-mail Pat (pbdavi01@syr.edu) for any technical questions beforehand.

Field Trip to Performa 09/NYC

CANCELED: sorry–but I need to rest. We’ll do a cool field trip soon, I promise.

Proposed by Joanna Spitzner and Natalia Mount

Performa 09, the third biennial of new visual art performance, will be held in New York City from November 1-22, 2009.
See here for details.

The three-week city-wide festival will feature new Performa Commissions and an exciting program of performances, exhibitions, educational forums, film screenings, and radio and television broadcasts. Presented with a consortium of arts institutions and a network of public and private venues across the city, Performa 09 will showcase the work of approximately 150 artists in collaboration with over 40 curators — institutional and independent — in a lively, performance-driven “festival as think tank” that will be a catalyst for envisioning New York City as “the city of the Future”.

I suggest we go for the day on Saturday, November 21. (leave really early, come back really late). The calendar for that day is here: http://performa-arts.org/blog/performa-09/calendar/?date=21

I’ll rent a car, we just need to split gas/tolls/parking. Email me if you want to go.
