GROUPS!!!

connection

I’m trying to find the best way to get our different reading, critique, and interest groups going. So, I’ve set up a BuddyPress, which is a social networking system.

You can become a member, join groups, start your own blog, etc.  I hope it will work, so check it out:

Pd (aka Pure Data) Workshop

A not-great video doc of the workshop:

Title: Pd (aka Pure Data) Workshop
Location: co-opted space # 1:  207 Shaffer Art Building, Syracuse University campus

Wednesday, October 14, 2009 4-6 pm

Led by mark edward grimm

Pd (aka Pure Data) is a real-time graphical programming environment for audio, video, and graphical processing. It is the third major branch of the family of patcher programming languages known as Max (Max/FTS, ISPW Max, Max/MSP, jMax, etc.) originally developed by Miller Puckette and company at IRCAM.

This workshop is an introduction to the basic concepts of puredata and some simple implementations for artists to get started in programming interactive audio/visual applications.

Workshop participants must accompany themselves with a laptop of their choice. All operating systems are acceptable.

Quick Update

Hi everyone,

Thanks to all who have sent in proposals–keep them coming.

I just scanned the first readings for the different reading groups, and will be posting them soon. We’ll schedule times to meet in the next 2 weeks. I’ll also be scheduling the critique group soon.

I’ll send out an e-newsletter this week, once I’ve got all these things in order.

See you soon!

Joanna

Proposed by mark edward grimm

Genetic algorithms are a particular class of evolutionary algorithms (EA) that use techniques inspired by evolutionary biology such as inheritance, mutation, selection, and crossover.

In this discussion/reading group, we will explore the texts of Gille Deleuze in attempt to understand how artists can better utilize concepts explored in contributed texts to the subject stemming from Deleuze’s thought concerning the genetic algorithm.

Materials needed:  An internet connection and the ability to print related texts.
